| stay home! |
[Dec. 21st, 2009|02:23 pm] |
It just took me literally 90 minutes to go to Target and back. I needed to pick up a prescription but everyone and their mom was out last minute shopping and driving like morons with the snow in the road still
I was so pissed when I got home I was shaky, but Im sure some of that was low blood sugar too
FYI, I live 2 miles from Target and most of my time was waiting just to turn into the parking lot. I was in and out of the pharmacy in 5 minutes and back into traffic |

| Snow day |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|10:49 am] |
Looks like we got just under 2 feet of snow
Chris and Keira have been outside playing in it for hours now and Keira has made it clear she does NOT want to come back inside LOL
I think Chris has found a fellow snow bunny
Speaking of, he is using the snow shovel to dig tunnels around the yard in patterns and then he hides and she comes running down the path looking for him. Will try to get that on film as its priceless

[Dec. 19th, 2009|06:32 pm] |
Its still coming down pretty hard and we are on track to get between 20 and 30 inches. Right now we are at about 19 or 20"
Of course, I love watching the snow but I HATE HATE HATEEEEEE driving/living in it so its a Catch 22 for me |

| Piper 2 month update |
[Dec. 19th, 2009|06:30 pm] |
10lbs 1oz 22.5" 15" head circ
25th percentile for everything. Awwww, eventhough she looks all big to me, she is still tiny comparatively :)
But, it should be noted she was born in the 8th percentile for weight and 25th for length so at least she is gaining weight nicely :)
Got her first shot, the DTaP which of course is always horrible for me but its just one or two shots at a time, as opposed to the SIX they would give her if I was following the crazy CDC schedule (AT 2 months they want to give DTaP, hib, Pneumococcal (PVC), Rotavirus, Polio and Hep B). Too much aluminum at once like that CANNOT be good for a tiny 10 lb baby. But anyways, Im not passionate (too much) about vaxxing so I will just stop there before I get into trouble. They offered rotavirus but I declined it. My rule about vaccines is that if its not life threatening disease (like say Polio, Diptheria etc..) I generally avoid it. Also if the risks outweigh the pros I skip it. As it was, they dont carry Rotavirus in that office and I would have to go to the other location so good thing I didnt have my heart set on getting it. Its an oral vaccine and its live, which squicks me out even more. Here is what Dr Sears says about spacing out the vaccines
--Is it worth the trouble to spread a baby's vaccines out over more visits so less shots are given at a time? Thursday, August 23, 2007
The main difference in my suggested alternative vaccine schedule is it spreads the infant vaccines out over the first few years of life, instead of bunching them all up in the first 18 months. It gives fewer vaccines at a time, gives the most important vaccines first, and slightly delays the less important vaccines. But ultimately the end result is the same - a fully vaccinated child. What are the benefits of my alternative schedule compared to the standard one?
By only giving two vaccines at a time (instead of as many as 6), I decrease the chance of chemical overload from grouping so many vaccines chemicals all together at once. This allows a baby's body to better detoxify the chemicals one or two at a time. -I give only 1 aluminum-containing vaccine at a time (instead of the recommended 4). Overloading on this metal can be particularly toxic to the brain (See Resources, page ___ of The Vaccine Book to view the research on this). -I give only one live-virus vaccine component at a time to allow the body's immune system to better handle the live viruses in these vaccines. -Giving fewer shots at a time may decrease the side effects, in my experience. -Giving fewer shots at a time also makes it easier to figure out which vaccine a child is reacting to if a severe reaction occurs. Sure, vaccinating this way means more visits to the doctor's office, more gas money, more insurance co-pays and more time off work to take your baby in. BUT, some parents may decide it's worth the extra time, money and trouble. ----
So the doc said she was happy with her progress. Give her tummy time blah blah blah all the stuff I know already. She isnt a fan of tummy time but since she has a weak neck (from having 5 loops around it and not getting full use of it til after birth) its good to get her lifting it up on her own more now.
We go back at 3 months for 2 more shots (PC and HIB) and then months 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 18 and so on. I dont mind the extra co-pays and gas if it means I can sleep better at night knowing I made the best decision for my family. I have no problems with families who vax on schedule OR families that dont vax at all (and I let Keira play with both sides with no fears) but this is what works best for my peace of mind.
I asked about the chickenpox and was told Piper should NOT get it as long as Im nursing so I figure with the 4 donors she has gotten milk from, she shoul dbe just fine. For those of you who didnt know, we went to a playdate on Monday with a family who had chickenpox and I didnt know until later that night when the mom found spots on the 3 year old and emailed me apologizing. I wasnt concerned about Keira in fact I WANT her to get it naturally which is why she didnt get the varicella vaccine to begin with. But I was concerned about Piper getting it at such a young age with an immature immune system but now Im not worried so much anymore. Also, she wouldnt be contagious until the EARLIEST next Wednesday and the spots would show up right on Christmas Day. Isnt that fantastic LOL Oh and apparently since she has eczema, she would get between 1000-1500 pox where the normal child gets between 250-500. Oh lucky me! If she DOES get it (who knows if she will since she didnt play too closely with the little girl who has it) its good timing since Chris will be home to help me with her and keep her from scratching herself raw. Im not looking forward to it but I am at the same time..getting it out of the way, kinda. sorta. |
